‘It shattered everything:’ Wedding venue suddenly closes, leaving couples out thousands

THE VENUE NEAR RTU FOR THAT REASON. >> Reporter: YOU REALLY FEEL FOR THESE COUPLES, FOR STARTERS, THE COUPLE SAID THEY LIKED THE FACT THAT THIS VENUE WAS SO CLOSE TO ROAD YOU, SO THEIR OUT-OF-TOWN GUESTS COULD GET HERE QUICKLY, BUT TONIGHT THIS COUPLE DOESN'T KNOW WHERE TO TELL THEIR GUESTS TO GO. >> OUR RECEPTION WAS GOING TO BE THERE, IT JUST SHATTERED EVERYTHING THAT WE DREAMT OF. THAT I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF SINCE I WAS LITTLE. >> Reporter: THIS MIGHT BE THE HARDEST THING ALLISON AND ALEX EVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH.

>> DAY BY DAY, HOPEFULLY WE ARE TRYING TO FIND ANOTHER VENUE AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE. >> Reporter: THEY MET IN GREENVILLE IN 2016. >> IT WAS MY SOPHOMORE YEAR OF COLLEGE, I ATTENDED EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY, AND WE MET THROUGH A MUTUAL FRIEND, WE LIVED IN THE SAME APARTMENT COMPLEX AND ALEX CAME OVER ONE NIGHT FOR GAME NIGHT, [ LAUGHTER ] >> Reporter: IN APRIL OF LAST YEAR, THEY DECIDED TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP. >> WE DECIDED TO HAVE A NICE BACKDROP AND EVERYTHING. >> Reporter: THEY SEND OUT SAVE THE DATES AND INVITATIONS. >> OCTOBER 5, 2019. >> Reporter: SO YOU ARE TWO MONTHS BEFORE THIS? >> 67 DAYS AWAY. >> Reporter: THEN CAME THE EMAIL.

>> WE NEVER THOUGHT IN 1 MILLION YEARS THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. THAT THEY WOULD CANCEL ON US TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING. SO IT WENT STRAIGHT INTO PANIC MODE, TO DISPUTE WITH THE LANDLORD THAT WHEN THEY WOULD COME TO AN AGREEMENT, WHEN THE LEASE WOULD BE RENEWED, SO THEY HAD TO CANCEL ALL EVENTS PAST AUGUST 31. >> Reporter: NOAH HAS OFFERED THEM THE CHANCE TO DO THEIR WEDDING AT ONE OF THEIR OTHER LOCATIONS, EITHER IN CHARLOTTE OR HIGH POINT, BUT NO CALLS TO APOLOGIZE. >> WE JUST FINISHED MAKING OUR FINAL PAYMENTS ON THE THAT STUFF, SO NOW IT'S FIGURING OUT WHAT CAN TRANSFER TO ANOTHER DATE IF WE HAVE TO.

>> Reporter: NOAH'S EVENT VENUE IS BASED IN UTAH AND TOLD US WE ARE DEEPLY SADDENED AND HEARTBROKEN OUR LANDLORDS REJECTED OUR LEASE OFFERS. AND THAT THE MOORESVILLE VENUE WILL BE FORCED TO CLOSE AUGUST 31, 2019. DOCUMENTS SHOW THE COMPANY FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY LAST MONTH, AND TRIED TO RENEGOTIATE ITS LEASE WITH MORE THAN 40 VENUES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE MOORESVILLE LAND LANDLORDS DID NOT ACCEPT. IN COURT FILINGS, NOAH SAID, WE SIMPLY GREW TOO FAST AND LOST OUR ABILITY TO REACT TO AN EVER- CHANGING MARKET. BY FOCUSING TOO HEAVILY ON NEW LOCATIONS VERSUS MAKING SURE THE FLEDGLING LOCATIONS HAD THE PROPER SUPPORT. >> IT'S UNFORTUNATE. WE STILL HAVE EACH OTHER AND WE ARE THANKFUL FOR THAT.

BUT, I WANT HER TO HAVE THE WEDDING THAT SHE'S ALWAYS WANTED. >> Reporter: THIS COUPLE AND OTHERS SAID THEY WILL BE GETTING SOME MONEY BACK, BUT NOWHERE CLOSE TO WHAT THEY PUT IN SO FAR, ANOTHER BRIDE TOLD ME SHE'S OUT $6500, ANOTHER 5000 THAT LIST GOES ON AND ON.
